World’s Shortest Teen – NTY 2011 Goodwill Ambassador
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has appointed Khagendra Thapa Magar, the shortest teen in the world, as NTY 2011′s Goodwill Ambassador.
Khagendra, who hails from Baglung district, and is 22 inches/56cms tall is all set to take the title of the ‘World’s Shortest Man’ once he reaches the age of eighteen on October 14th 2010.
He as well as Miss Nepal Sadiccha Shrestha will be promoting NTY 2011 at NTB’s major press conferences and promotional campaigns in different parts of the world.According to Prachanda Man Shrestha, NTB’s CEO, their first major participation will be at World Travel Mart, London, this November.
Changa Chait (Kite Flying) Competition at Kakani
The Fourth Kakani Open Changa Chait(Kite Flying) Competition will be held on October 8th,2010 at the Taragaon premises in Kakani, Nuwakot.The event is organized by the Youth Vision Youth Club.Apart from the Kite Flying competition, there will be food stalls selling Rainbow Trout Fish, traditional food items like gundruk & bhatmas, mushrooms, strawberry wine, a live DJ session etc.
Kakani is located 29km north-west of Kathmandu, a mere 1½ hr drive away from the capital. From Kakani one can enjoy fantastic views of Ganesh Himal (7,111m), Manaslu (8,163m), Garuishanker (7,134m) and Annapurna I (8,091m).
World Tourism Day celebrated in Nepal
On the occasion of World Tourism Day (27th September) the Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation Sarat Singh Bhandari unveiled three new trekking routes.The trails leading to Panchpokhari-Bhairav Kunda in Sindhpalchowk, Dhorpatan in Baglung and Galeshwar of Myagdi – have been introduced with the objective of increasing number of tourists during Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign.
This year’s international World Tourism Day was celebrated by tourism entrepreneurs all over Nepal with the theme of ‘Tourism & Biodiversity’. Discounts on food and accommodation were given out at different outlets to tourists.In Thamel, the tourist hub of Kathmandu, a street carnival was organized by the Thamel Tourism development Council to mark the day.
Special Discounts for Tourists in Pokhara on World Tourism Day
According to press statement issued by the Western Regional Chapter of Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN),to celebrate World Tourism Day(27th September), the association is providing free meal and accommodation to the first tourist entering Pokhara on that day.Similarly, other tourists will get 50 percent discount on accommodation and meal on that day.Tourists can enjoy the facility in about 400 hotels under the association’s umbrella.

ASA signed between Nepal & Turkey
An Air Service Agreement (ASA) was signed between Nepal and Turkey to begin direct air service between the two countries.The agreement was signed at Turkey’s capital Ankara by Nepal’s MoTCA Secretary,Mr.Kishor Thapa and Dr Ali Ariduru, Director General, Civil Aviation Department of Turkey following talks between the two nations on 23rd & 24th September 2010.As per the agreement, both the countries can operate 14 flights per week along the the Kathmandu-Istanbul route.

Explore Himalaya Travel & Adventure is participating at ITB, Asia in Singapore from 20th to 22nd October 2010 and at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2010 in London from 8th to 11th November 2010, represented by the company’s President, Mr. Suman Pandey.
At ITB Asia, Singapore we will be exhibiting our products at Stand F11, while at WTM, London we will be at Stand AS 540. At both these fairs we will be exhibiting our products together with the ‘Asian Connections Alliance’.

‘Save the Himalayas’ supporters march to UN HQ, New York
As a continuation of ‘Save the Himalayas’ campaign, on 21st September 2010, a rally was organized by NRN America, in collaboration with the Government of Nepal and National Trust for Nature Conservation.The rally saw a huge turnout of supporters that included 18 Everest summitters, members from different Nepalese organizations and concerned individuals.The participants marched to the United Nations building at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, New York as world leaders gathered inside the UN building.An online petition to collect signatures was also taken to the United Nations with the help of Nepal Mission to get signatures of other nations to appeal to the UN and global community to Save the Himalayas.
1939 Mercedes Benz-A Gift from Hitler to King Tribhuvan to be showcased at the Narayanhiti Museum
A 1939 Mercedes Benz presented by Adolf Hitler to King Tribhuvan, grandfather of Nepal’s deposed ex-monarch Gyanendra Shah will finally be showcased at the Narayanhiti Museum.The museum authorities have come up with the idea of offering joy rides to visitors on the antique automobile and an old chariot used by King Tribhuvan, around the former palace grounds. The Mercedes Benz has been rotting at the old palace garage in a dilapidated condition.According to museum authorities it would take around $537,000 to restore both the car and chariot.

* Narayanhiti Palace was built by late King Mahendra, father of ex-monarch Gyanendra Shah, between 1963 and 1969.
*The palace is named after the Narayan Temple located at the palace grounds and a water spout(hiti)that lies next to the temple.
*Inaugurated as a museum by PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal on February 26th 2009.
*The palace has 52 rooms named after the districts of Nepal.Of the 52 rooms, only 19 are opened for public viewing.
